For Mercurial, BitBucket is a good alternative to GitHub. It supports Git too.
BitBucket used to be lagging behind GitHub but now they are more or less
equivalent.
BitBucket has some small downsides, it doesn't support Inline Editing and
Inline code comments unlike GitHub (this last point is troublesome for code
reviews).
However it offers side-by-side diff which is much better for browsing commits
and code review (Pull Requests).
For Git, there is Gitorious too, which is dedicated to open source projects and
seem to offer side-by-side diff too.
