There is a good Que book about socket programming in linux:

   Socket Programmin in Linux
   Programming By Example
   Warren W. Gay

I read this book--oh, I don't know, two years ago. I implemented most of the 
example programs in the book and some of my own. Interested parties let me 
know; I can attach a gz with a whole host of examples that might expedite a 
fresh developer in quickly developing fundamental socket classes.
