Jabber protocol 1.4 has just recently been submitted as an informational RFC to the IETF. Informational means just to show the IETF what we have right now, not to get them to adopt it. Jabber protocol 1.2 (i think) was also submitted to the IETF, but only as an Informational for their messaging and presence WG. Informationals are not accepted/rejected, just shown. We hope to one day feel confident enough to take Jabber to them as a real RFC. But we don't want to do that until Jabber has become a near de-facto standard anyway, to assure our adoption.

I'm curious -- did you submit Jabber as an RFC, and what was
the result/reason given for its denial?

Hi, all. There doesn't seem to be any objections to using Jabber, in
fact only praise for how it could help DotGNU (if you do see problems,
please speak up! :-). So now I'm wondering how to make it "official"
that DotGNU will use Jabber whenever reasonably possible for XML routing
and communication. Is there a group of people that have to vote? I think
that getting it official and on the website is key to getting various
coders here to really look into it and begin integrating it into their
projects. Without the official stamp of approval too many people would
avoid it out of fear that it is a fancy, or worse not even know about
it.
