What's so special about ADO.NET, I don't know jack about it I admit, but 
should we do what "someone" else is doing?  Or should we reinvent that wheel?

cons:
I don't think ADO.NET is patent safe

pros:
many people already know its implementation well and will work with existing 
code.  

Maybe we could write a converging wrapper for ADO.NET style around our style 
later on for compatibility?  Or stub out the ADO.NET libraries and implement 
them ourselves?  Like you said before "after all it's easier than working on 
an already designed library".  Maybe this could be a Good Thing(tm) to do our 
own interpretation to what a database frontend should look like.

More thoughts and concerns needed =)
