Give it a try and see what happens. If it doesn't break anything, we'll
probably apply the patch. There's a lot of old crufty system code in "cscc"
that should probably be moved down into "support".
That code in "cscc/common" probably also needs to be modified to use a regular
spawn on systems without pipes, writing the data out to a temporary file.
