The only time I used line numbers in Emacs was to prepare a paper
printout for a code review; for that, line numbers are essential. Later,
I always did code reviews on a terminal, so line numbers were not
needed.
But it does raise the question; with the display engine line numbers be
printed if the buffer is printed?
