Emacs commit 694ee38 fixed this.

It's in neither 26.1.92 nor 26.2, so you have to wait either for 27, or for the fix to be backported. I added notes to the guide.

Wouldn't it be easier to just make sure thread support is enabled? I'm surprised it's off, since if I recall correctly, it should be on by default.
