I did as you said, that did the trick, no spurious
compilations any more.  Thanks.

For the record the new version without annoying compilations is:

In GNU Emacs 29.0.50 (build 2, x86_64-pc-linux-gnu, cairo
 version 1.16.0) of 2022-10-24 built on no
Repository revision: f7816c94b61f87919afccbedbea5270ca5db4e15
