I think that expanding what we can do with email is not a requirement,
but it is quite desirable.  A web interface can be snazzy and
superficially convenient, but email is superior fundamentally because
it is asynchronous, and because it is less capable of freedom
denial and mistreatment of users than a web browser can be.
