Backporting upstream commits might be slightly more manual compared to
applying patches specifically submitted for Org. Otherwise, no downside
- you are getting code improvements from Elisp experts behind Emacs
after all :) For example, AFAIR, we got conversion to lexical binding
largely contributed by Emacs devs.
