    Revert "Bind the GIT_LITERAL_PATHSPECS environment variable"
    
    This reverts commit a2d0ff26005c5c10ffe0d84bd8b458a06828be82.
    
    It was found to break a certain use case, and we decided to go with
    the other solution (bug#39452).
