Oh ... it seems you can do it simply this way :

\begin{frame}[plain,t]{}
\includegraphics[width=\textwidth, height=\textheight]{mypicture}
\end{frame}

I don't fully understand this thread but to get a full frame photo on a
slide I once did this, essentially turn the wallpaper on, make a blank
slide, turn it off again (looks like it used the old, current,
exporter):

** Turn on wallpaper                                       :B_ignoreheading:
:PROPERTIES:
:BEAMER_env: ignoreheading
:END:
#+begin_latex
  \setbeamertemplate{background canvas}%
                    {\ThisULCornerWallPaper{1.115}%
                      {/home/myles/MASSIVE_PHOTO.jpg}}
#+end_latex

**                                                                :B_columns:
:PROPERTIES:
:BEAMER_env: columns
:END:

\vskip15pt

** Turn off wallpaper                                       :B_ignoreheading:
:PROPERTIES:
:BEAMER_env: ignoreheading
:END:

#+begin_latex
\setbeamertemplate{background canvas}{\ClearWallPaper}
\setbeamercolor{normal text}{bg=gray!30}
#+end_latex
