[Unfortunately, days it's practically impossible to use a dark
background in a web browser :-(.]
It doesn't make sense to me that each package needs to worry about
these issues separately. Wouldn't it be useful to have a catalogue of
colours that are known to form a sane set for the different sorts of
displays?
As it is, I find font-lock defaults more-or-less impossible on a light
background in rxvt because of the yellow and cyan it uses. Also, for
instance, various defaults in Gnus are a problem.
