Proportional font display is corrupted after cursor moves away from them

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:

To reproduce:

1. Goto a page with variable width fonts (such as an emacswikimode page)
2. Move the cursor back and forth over the text
3. The text becomes corrupted as new characters are written over the old ones.

Parts of the characters are missing ('fgl' are particularly prone to this)

This is a dump from what-cursor-position for the font I'm using that causes 
problems.

I'm only experiencing this on latest CVS of NTEmacs -- (21.3.1 works fine).
