Dangerous behavior when copying to current directory

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:

I am editing a file, and then I do
M-x copy-file /tmp/somefileelsewhere else RET
As the target of the copy, my current directory gets displayed.
Convenient.  I press return since I want to copy the file into the
current directory and Emacs asks whether I really want to overwrite
the current file I am editing!  Of course not.  If I don't specify a
file name for the copy, I'd expect it to use the original file name,
not choose to overwrite whatever I might be working with at the
current point of time.  At no time (before the question was asked) was
the file name ever in the prompt or editing string.

In GNU Emacs 22.0.50.29 (i686-pc-linux-gnu, GTK+ Version 2.6.2)
