How much time did you think you needed?  Building Emacs out of CVS
takes about half an hour on a reasonably fast machine, during which
time you do absolutely nothing except wait for it to finish.  It's
very simple, really.  You type "./configure; make bootstrap" and go
for a cup of coffee (or tea, as the case may be ;-).
