According to pkg-config, I run cairo 1.2.4 on both the Solaris 11
system and my Debian GNU/Linux laptop:

I only get the crashes with the combination of Solaris GNU Emacs 23
prerelease (Gtk version) vs. GNU/Linux X11 server.
