Since ido-mode doesn't use advice this has, a priori, nothing to do
with ido (try with Emacs -Q).  I suspect you load something in your
.emacs which advices `find-file'.  Please try to find what, see why
it interacts badly with `find-file' and ido, and tell us about your
findings.
