That would be a great help in selecting hardware. But I think a lot of 
money gets thrown around for the usual "Designed for Foobar" or 
"Blahblah Certified" stickers.

The FSF could just design some label for freedom loving hardware 
manufacturers to use. But it probably wouldn't get used much because it 
would make the wrapping less sexy for the consumer. Or, if consumers 
finally realize that hardware with free drivers/firmware works better, 
it would get abused and devalued if there's no supervision (much like 
even the most grotesk SUVs are promoted as environmentally friendly 
nowadays).
