IIRC for some printers setup by that tool its downloading proprietary
software for supporting it. Perhaps that has been disabled in the new
debian packages?

Sounds like a configuration issue, but not one we'd support here.

Potentially so. If its configuring something proprietary that may not
be a feature though :)
