I thought that only applied for the AT phone types?

I tried changing it to 9600, with great hopes, but still exactly the
same error.

*sigh*

It's nice to see someone in the same time zone on this list, and if you
were in Melbourne I'd be tempted to ask if I could bring the offending
phone and cable over and try to work out where the problem is, but you
seem to be in Sydney.  Oh well.
