Motorola E365

Hi,

I have installed Gnokii 0.6.1 from source and I am trying to use it with
a Motorola E365 (A cheapish GSM/GPRS Camera phone) through a USB to
serial cable with a Prolific PL2303 chipset. I am trying to use the AT
driver, but it doesn't work, aparently because the phone doesn't support
the full AT command set.

If I run gnokii --identify I get the following response:

GNOKII Version 0.6.1
write: [ATZ<cr>]
read : [<cr><lf>+CBM:
88<cr><lf>031000C80111B058AC0682C56EB71908169BCD642058AC06CB351A8D46A3D168341A8D46A3D168341A8D46A3D168341A8D46A3D168341A8D46A3D168341A8D46A3D168341A8D46A3D168341A8D46A3D168341A8D46A3D100<cr><lf>ATZ<cr><cr><lf>OK<cr><lf>]
write: [ATE1<cr>]
read : [ATE1<cr><cr><lf>OK<cr><lf>]
write: [AT+CGMM<cr>]
read : [AT+CGMM<cr><cr><lf>E365<cr><lf><cr><lf>OK<cr><lf>]
write: [AT+CGMI<cr>]
read : [AT+CGMI<cr><cr><lf>ERROR<cr><lf>]
Telephone interface init failed: Unknown error - well better than
nothing!!
Quitting.

or (more frequently):

GNOKII Version 0.6.1
write: [ATZ<cr>]
read : [ATZ<cr><cr><lf>OK<cr><lf>]
write: [ATE1<cr>]
read : [ATE1<cr><cr><lf>OK<cr><lf>]
write: [AT+CGMM<cr>]
read : [AT+CGMM<cr><cr><lf>E365<cr><lf><cr><lf>OK<cr><lf>]
write: [AT+CGMI<cr>]
read : [AT+CGMI<cr><cr><lf>ERROR<cr><lf>]
Telephone interface init failed: Unknown error - well better than
nothing!!
Quitting.

This corresponds to the results I get typing AT commands at the phone in
Minicom (The +CBM: 88 followed by a string of numbers seems to happen
periodically). The phone simply doesn't seem to support AT+CGMI (which
I believe should report Motorola). Other AT commands, such as the ones
for listing mailboxes do apear to work in Minicom.

I would very much like my phone to be supported in Gnokii, and I would
be willing to write a new driver if necessary, but at present I don't
know much about what that would take. Can anyone point me in the right
direction?

Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to offer,

Peter Russell
