does DKU-5 actually work under Linux?

I'm trying to get my DKU-5 + Nokia 6200 working under Linux; I ordered
this cable because I saw several people apparently using it successfully
in the list archives.

But now I'm getting confused. The Linux-USB Device Overview at
http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/showdev.php?id=2302 implies that it's not
supported, even though several people seem to have successfully used it
with the pl2303 driver.  My cable isn't recognized by the pl2303 driver;
it says

hub.c: new USB device 00:1f.2-2, assigned address 2
usb.c: USB device 2 (vend/prod 0x421/0x800) is not claimed by any active driver.

and that device ID (0x421/0x800) isn't listed in any drivers under
usb/serial. (I checked 2.4.25 and 2.4 BK current.)

So I hacked it and added that device ID to pl2303.c. Now I get

usb.c: registered new driver serial
usbserial.c: USB Serial support registered for Generic
usbserial.c: USB Serial Driver core v1.4
usbserial.c: USB Serial support registered for PL-2303
usbserial.c: PL-2303 converter detected
usbserial.c: PL-2303 converter now attached to ttyUSB0 (or usb/tts/0 for devfs)
pl2303.c: Prolific PL2303 USB to serial adaptor driver v0.10

and a nice oops when I try to open the port (cat /dev/usb/tts/0).

The cable I have *appears* to be a real Nokia product; it has a sticker
reading

"Nokia (R)
Type: DKU-5
CL11083821
MADE IN
THAILAND"

and it came with a pressed CD of Windows software, a manual, etc.

Can anybody who has a working DKU-5 let me know what their software
configuration is (USB modules, dmesg output, etc) so that I can get back
on track?
