Hello,

I'm trying to set up a connection between an irda-usb adapter (KC-180 IrDA
Dongle) and my Nokia 7210 by gnokii.
I use Debian with Kernel 2.6.6. My first question: is Nokia 7210 supported?

The irda-usb adapter should be working fine because if I do irdadump, I get
the following, which clearly shows that there is a working dialog between the
nk7210 and the laptop.

galileo:~# irdadump
23:01:31.885062 xid:cmd 8cfe451a > ffffffff S=6 s=5 (14)
23:01:31.961678 xid:rsp 8cfe451a < 00009cb4 S=6 s=5 Nokia 7210 hint=b125 [ PnP
Modem Fax Telephony IrCOMM IrOBEX ] (27)
23:01:31.974822 xid:cmd 8cfe451a > ffffffff S=6 s=* galileo hint=0400
[ Computer ] (23)
23:01:34.434444 xid:cmd 8cfe451a > ffffffff S=6 s=0 (14)
23:01:34.524430 xid:cmd 8cfe451a > ffffffff S=6 s=1 (14)
23:01:34.614407 xid:cmd 8cfe451a > ffffffff S=6 s=2 (14)
23:01:34.704394 xid:cmd 8cfe451a > ffffffff S=6 s=3 (14)
23:01:34.794381 xid:cmd 8cfe451a > ffffffff S=6 s=4 (14)
...

Unfortunately, if I try to use xgnokii, I always get the following message on
the shell and nothing works:

galileo:~# xgnokii
Couldn't open PHONET device: Success
GSM/FBUS init failed!

I tried 6210, 7110, 6610 as models in .gnokiirc, hoping that it could also
work for the 7210, but nothing to do. I don't know if the problems are with
the device /dev/ircomm0.
Anyway, I have the following modules in the kernel:
ircomm_tty 22536 0
ircomm 12548 1 ircomm_tty
irtty_sir 5632 0
sir_dev 13612 1 irtty_sir
irda_usb 10500 0
irda 118716 6 ircomm_tty,ircomm,sir_dev,irda_usb

Please help!!!

Thanks in advance!
Gianni

In the following I post 1) the irda.conf file and the 2) .gnokiirc file for
completeness.

# Set port to the physical serial port used to connect to your phone.
# Linux version is:
port = /dev/ircomm0
# For MacOSX you will need something like:
# port = /dev/cu.USA28X1P1.1

# Use this setting also for the Bluetooth connection:
# port = aa:bb:cc:dd:ee:ff

# Set model to the model number of your phone
model = 7110

# Initlength controls the number of characters sent to the
# phone during initialisation. You can either set it to
# the word "default" or a positive integer.
#
# You can try setting this value if you want to connect
# to the phone quicker. If you've never noticed the
# connection to be slow, it is suggested that you
# leave this alone. Read the initialisation code in fbus-xxxx
# to understand what this changes if you're curious.
initlength = default

# The type of the connection, for IR set this to infrared or irda.
# For the nk6110 driver only infrared is valid for the IrDA connection.
# See Docs/gnokii-ir-howto for more detailes on this.
# If you have 6210/6250/7110 phone and dau9p cable (the one you can
# use with 6100 series and cannot use hardware modem from the phone)
# you may want to use 'dau9p' value to get faster initialization.
# If you use dlr3 or dlr3p cable for nokia phones in FBUS mode (ie.
# you don't use model = AT) you may want to use 'dlr3p' value here.
# Note that it is recommended and currently the best way to use this
# cable with nk6510 driver.
