  OK, at least that eliminates one possibility.  My linux system logs to
console tty12.  I've done some experimenting...  Here's what I see when I
plug the CA42 into the phone, and then plug the USB end into the
computer when I only have ehci_hcd (latest/greatest USB drivers)
compiled...

  When I have *BOTH* ehci_hcd *AND* ohci_hcd compiled, I get a lot more
output...

  I don't see any new entries in /dev.  Next, I went mucking around in
"make menuconfig" under USB drivers.  I enabled usb-serial support *AS A
MODULE*, and generic serial support.  After building and re-booting, I
followed instructions in usb-serial.txt and did...

mknod /dev/ttyUSB0 c 188 0
...followed by...
> insmod /usr/src/linux-2.6.15-gentoo-r1/drivers/usb/serial/usbserial.ko 
> vendor=0x6547 product=0x0232

and later rmmod'd and tried...
modprobe usbserial vendor=0x6547 product=0x0232

I tried various options in .gnokiirc, but still no luck.
