Ok - for testing purposes, I've chmoded it for write access:

ls -l /proc/bus/usb/001/003
-rw-rw-rw- 1 root usb 366 Dec 17 11:16 /proc/bus/usb/001/003

and tweaked the ebuild to enable debug (just for clarity here are the options I've set again:

port = /dev/ttyACM0
model = 6100
connection = dku2libusb)

The result is, well - the same...

$ gnokii --identify
