Hrm. The original problem used to halt communication with the phone via
SMSD, and the daemon would need to be restarted. Since compilation of the
new version, there is no halt in communication and SMS's still get sent out
- so I guess you're right, there is no real problem - only in the older
version, which happens to be shipped with Ubuntu via package management -
which is a problem but for someone else now.

Also, thanks for the nice software!! We've been using Gnokii/smsd for many
years now as part of our Nagios SMS alerting system, and it has worked
rather well :-)
