After having this patch merged I discussed with Neox to find out what
scheme could work to be able to re-make releases with minimal work.
Previously we found nonfree software in one of the released source
tarballs. It was just a tarball that published all the upstream source
code we used (with nonfree software removed), so the nonfree software
didn't made it in the GNU Boot source code nor the released binaries.
So that tarball was remade by hand by neox (the additional nonfree
software we found was just deleted in it) and renamed (to make sure
people don't confused it with the older one which was deleted).
But now we have 2 or 3 patches to backport to fix the same tarball, so
we came up with this scheme: older releases have tags (like 0.1-rc3),
and so we just created additional tags (like 0.1-rc3-1).
Then we can just run the usual build and ship new tarballs or even
binaries or other files if we find nonfreee software in them.
Also note that this is just to avoid redistributing nonfree software:
we don't plan to maintain older releases (for instance we won't
backport security fixes or other important fixes).
Denis.
