A clarification please on GNUMed "databases".

Does each .sql file in the server/sql directory represent a separate 
"database", each with a set of pertinent tables?

If these are each "databases", then how do they relate to the premise 
that GNUMed is at present "one, monolithic" database. but one whose 
"services" will support a splitting into databases when the state of 
medical data infrastructure warrants?
