I even managed to bootstrap a local database version 7 on a native Mac OS PostgreSQL. You can simply run the script "bootstrap-latest.sh" in a Terminal and you are good. For all users not wanting this they can simply choose
the "public database" profile and connect to our Internet database.

The Mac package can be gotten from
http://www.gnumed.de/downloads/client/0.2/GNUmed-client. 0.2.7.1.dmg.zip

Screenshots and logs are included in the next email

Downloaded (using Safari browser 3.0.4, Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11).
Double-clicking the downloaded .zip file decompresses to a .dmg file.
Double-clicking the .dmg mounts the volume in the Mac GUI.
Opening that volume to examine is files, in "Column:" view, reveals only the grey GNU graphic with green snake, however changing to "icon" view is nicer (see screenshot GnuMed_Mac_prelaunch in next email)

"Basic" Mac users see the single icon which is labelled an "application", it is in fact a Mac "package" whose contents can be displayed by Ctrl-clicking on the icon, and selecting "Show Package Contents" which will show, among other items, a file called gm-mac- osx.log.

Once I actually launch this client, it starts OK, accepting "any-doc" and then displaying the "Verifying database" prompt "Welcome to the USS Enterprise...". I then got different behaviour on each of a couple of tries:

1) the first and third times I tried to launch, I noted the "configuring GNUmed" progress thermometer opened, but it was too small... the progress text was overlapping the thermometer, and then I got the GNUMed work area with tools listed along the bottom with the "inbox" coloured blue and at the top of the screen it said "Below find the new messages in your inbox" with 4 columns headed: <no header>, category, type, message, with no content displayed. Nowhere could I see a search box.

Clicking various of the tools gave the following results:
- Patient details: "Cannot switch to [tool]: no patient selected"
- EMR tree: <same>
- ...
- Import Documents: <same>
- Appointments: <error... see next email>
- Reports: <works, but screen/frame size & location problems... see next email ) - xDT viewer: <brings forward Mac file-picker "Open file" dialog box set to the filer "Enable: xDT files (*.xDT)> ... interestingly this was pointing to the gnumed folder that I had previously installed on my Mac in September I think it was 0.2.7.0
- Setup: <screen rendering problem as with "Reports">
- Manual: <crahses Python, see Mac OS report in next email>
