Let's see what we get:

You are running on Ubuntu. Python 2.5.

Client version is 0.2.8.2. Your distro is 5 bug fix releases
behind.

GNUmed was called without any command line arguments. Did
you call a distro-supplied script/menu item or did you start
GNUmed yourself, say, from a shell ? If so, how ?

GNUmed detects that it was not given a config file explicitely.

Hence it tries to find one in a few reasonable places.

There's none in your homedir.

It found a system-wide config file.

This deprives us of a bunch of data points, but, oh well.

GNUmed tries storing some options in a config file. It
cannot write to the system-wide config file, however. It
gracefully recovers from that but ...

... then fails to gracefully recover from "Folgefehler".

This is, however, fixed in later releases.

The fix here is to

a) upgrade to a fixed version of GNUmed:

        http://wiki.gnumed.de/bin/view/Gnumed/UbuntuGuideShort

b) convince Ubuntu to update their currently stable release with
   *bug fix only* GNUmed updates
