Thanks for the clarifications.

re. the Python tool, when I get around to tidying up this code, I'll try an
AWT version - it isn't using anything fancy, probably just need to swap in
Frame for JFrame etc.

Your comments re. Swing & freeness, and Tuomas' reference to "our
financiers" have really got me curious - are you getting funding from
somewhere in GNU-land?
