[Help-gsl] implicit pivoting

Hi

this is not directly related to gsl so I hope you guys will forgive me.

Am I right into thinking that octave doesn't use implicit pivoting? I
am writing a simple lu decomposition routine and was wondering if anyone is
aware of a any study of the advantages of different pivoting methods.

Currently I am particularly  interested in pivot selection by the largest 
element and scaling or implicit pivoting.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
