Ah... the picture emerges. :) No fair throwing in the Macbook red herring.
The question you really want answered is "Should I anticipate speedup
on my GSL-based application when moving from GCC 4.4 to 4.5 to 4.6 to
4.7 on a Linux-based system...?". Definitely. 10x? No idea. You'd
have to profile it.
