This works for me:
(use-modules (gnu)
(gnu packages commencement)
(guix profiles))
(use-package-modules haskell haskell-xyz wm gcc)
(packages->manifest (list gcc-toolchain ghc ghc-hostname
ghc-xmonad-contrib xmonad))
and then xmonad --recompile Just Works.
