Do other desktop sounds work generally?
Thanks, Steve. Yes, I get the Gnome desktop alert sound when I try to
backspace past the beginning of the line or tab-complete something with
multiple possible completions in a Gnome terminal window, and I can
successfully customize that sound via Gnome settings -> Sound. I also
get a sort of horse's-hooves sound when I plug in or unplug the AC adapter.
I could find some Google references to it only working with some sound files. There's
a customise option in Edit->Settings->Calendar. You could try changing that to
an Ogg [0]
Tried with an Ogg (Vorbis). Same result. I've checked, and vlc can
successfully play the Ogg.
