What Happened to Controll+w in 8.1?

Hi All: Usually when running my Debian SID updates, when nano nags about a new config shipped by the maintainer, I almost always say "no" but today I figured I would take the chance. So I went in the config, mostly to fig suspend as controll+z but I made other changes. Now I type "nano -tk file name" and it sort of opens, but first it seems to want me to save. Then I try controll+w to search, but it didn't work, neither did controll+x to exit, so in the help it listed alternative ways of leaving. Please inform as to what happened-and-why? I guess will need to find an older .nanorc to replace from. Thanks in advance.
Chime
