It does (lots of the dev work was done on OS X leopard) - but not with the out-of-the-box gst. What's required is a gst binary that #includes sdlmain.Wow, that's disgusting! :-P
Seriously, I think we can make a different package (something like CocoaApp) that does the same things as SDLmain.m (see http://fisheye1.cenqua.com/browse/~raw,r=1.1/twin-e/twin-e/SDLMain.m for the source), and make it a prerequisite of SDL on Mac OS X.
