[help-texinfo] two spaces after the period

Hi,
    I note that texi2dvi inserts two spaces after the period at the end of
sentence. This default behaviour is described in "Special Insertions" section of
texinfo docs.

How can I disable this "two spaces feature" after period?

I have tried to redefine @. in texinfo.tex file. I have reduced spacefactor from
3000 to 1000.
    % @. is an end-of-sentence period.
    % \def\.{.\spacefactor=3000 }
    \def\.{.\spacefactor=1000 }

Using this method I need to change all "." in "@." in my texinfo files. I can
use sed but I don't like
this solution.

Have you got some suggestion?
