Karl Berry, Thanks for the instruction. I changed with the chmod a+x for the install-sh the access rights and then I tried to install texinfo. The commands ./configure and the make ended with no errors. The make check ended with the following remarks: ================== All 23 tests passed =================== make[2]: Nothing to be done for `check-am'. Making check in po make[1]: Nothing to be done for `check'. Making check in util make defs make[2]: `defs' is up to date. make check-TESTS SKIP: bibtex.test FAIL: dvipdf.test SKIP: latex2html.test FAIL: texi2dvi.test ==================================== 2 of 2 tests failed (2 tests were not run) Please report to address@hidden ==================================== make[2]: *** [check-TESTS] Error 1 make[1]: *** [check-am] Error 2 make: *** [check-recursive] Error 1 [Computer-van-Geenen:~/Desktop/GNU-texinfo/texinfo-4.11] geenen% make install I tried the make install and hoped that the two failed test did no harm. But it ended as follows: mkdir: /usr/local/share/texinfo: Permission denied make[2]: *** [install-dist_pkgdataDATA] Error 1 make[1]: *** [install-am] Error 2 make: *** [install-recursive] Error 1 Any idea what to do?
