  No, it's a working directory that I have given an unfortunately suggestive
name to.  It's on a completely different host from the real server and
repository :-o <phew>

  Heh, I'm not remotely that reckless.  (Although I have occasionally
tampered with it in a very cautious and limited way, such as rm'ing a whole
directory subtree I once imported into the wrong place.)

  Well, since I wasn't messing around with the repository, there should be
no need to do that :)

  Like I said, it seems to be some kind of misguided-yet-intentional
behaviour on the part of cvs.  I was hoping someone would know a magic rune
that would switch all the version 1.1.1.x files into my working dir back for
the most recent 1.x revision, given that my HEAD tags don't all point to the
same branch any more.
