the only thing that looks even the least bit strange to  me is the file name, 
which I suspect is some form of Unicode.

And having just read a email on the buglist about a Unicode filename 
problem[1], that email might be useful to you.

Having said that though, AFAICR, CVSNT (your client) handles Unicode stuff a 
little better at least inside of the files, also you might want to check cvs 
status on that file and see if it was checked in as a binary file (it should 
have been assuming .xls means it is an excel file).  I suspect that because 
you have your server on a Unix machine, that the server's file system is not 
configured to allow Unicode file names.  If this is not the problem, it is at 
least confusing the issue.

you might want to:
A) make a backup of the repository now.
B) MOVE the accounts/finance/Salary/Keihi/Pramod/<8c>o<94>ï_PramodK.xls,v file 
out of the repository.
C) do  a fresh checkout and see if it works correctly.
D) decide if the file goes back [with that same name].


You might want to check and see if the server is running standard CVS or if 
someone installed CVSNT on the server as well (it can be done).
run `cvs -v` on both the client machine and the server machine.

I recommend sending the info and questions you now have over to the CVSNT 
mailing list now.
