I think you've missed the point of CVS - it does this for you. If the
files were checked out of a CVS repository all you need to do is "cvs
ci" and CVS will tell you which files need to be checked back in.
I suggest you pick up one of the many good books out there on using CVS,
eg: "Essential CVS" or "All About CVS (ebook)"- the latter being
partially written by me.
