Well, that's the point where I'm confused, since in xnews the server
is news.individual.net with a login and password; and in gnus the
server (defined in "nntpserver") is also news.individual.net ... and
it requires the same login and password. They should both be the same
server. (The "News.CIS.DFN.DE" server that I used to use is defunct,
and is now news.individual.net, afaik. Though perhaps I missed
something somewhere.)

Yes, you're quite right. It's a matter of whether I'm going to post
enough to make it worth a subscription. Though I find that the older
I get, the less I have to say :-)
