"iso-8859-15", not hard to guess.

This might happen if your newsserver's overview is buggy.  Gnus uses
the overview data for the summary buffer and the real article for the
article buffer.

Gnus version?  Emacs version?

Not all (X)Emacs versions support iso-8859-15.
