Ok, as far as I get it this would be an option as well. Maybe I'll try it.
Just one question: Would this mean that I use nnmail-split-methods inside gnus
in order to separate mails of different type (e.g. from different mailing
lists), or would this mean that I configure maildrop to deliver it to different
maildir mailboxes, and set up secondary select methods inside gnus? To, me,
the first one (nnmail-split-methods) makes more sense, but maybe there are
arguments for the other solution as well?
The reason why I chose the other setup was mainly that I wanted to separate
things. I use both getmail and gnus for the first time, and I didn't want
getmail to write to the directory where my mail is actually located.

Yes, they would be interesting.
But, what do you say to my present configuration? Does it look reasonable at
first glance? In other words: Do you think I run into problems because I use
an unusual setup, or because I made some mistakes when configuring things?
(I use emacs 22.2.1 and gnus v5.11 on a debian stable installation)
Thanks,
Wolfgang
