I believe that G f sets up nndoc
And I assume the file is in "mbox" format.
If so, then I've seen this.
My experience is that the problem happens when the first message is
multi-part.
The work-around is to add a phony almost nil first message with no
mime stuff and a plain text message body to the file. Multi-part
messages in the file after the first message should be OK.
(*** And once in the past I reported this as a bug. ***)
