Hi,
You will find a wide range of free/commercial SIP providers out there, for instance in Germany:
http://www.voipproviderslist.com/country/voip-germany/voip-providers-germany/

Talking to other SIP clients (even using other SIP providers) should be free (only needs Internet), paid options are to access the POT service.
SIP offers are usually fairly cheap though.

Security of SIP is not as good as security provided by Ring accounts.
That is because the call negotiation is routed by various SIP servers on the path and even when using SIP/TLS (SIPS),
encryption is not end to end and servers can see the SIP traffic in plain text/modify it, by design.
Your SIP provider must support SIPS and shall provide you with the relevant configuration/certificates for your account.

With Ring accounts, the authenticated DTLS connection is always end-to-end and enforces PFS cypher suites.

Best regards,

Adrien

Yes, we use it internally at SFL with SIP (with an Asterisk server),

Would it be possible to make calls to mobiles too?

What about the accruimg costs?

About security, Ring simply acts as a normal SIP client when using SIP accounts, independent from Ring accounts.
SIP accounts in Ring support using custom TLS certificates/CA for SIPS and SRTP.

1. What does this exactly mean? e.g. compared to Ring accounts security?

2. Does my provider need to support TLS certificates/CA for SIPS and SRTP? Or is this handled by the clients only?

3. What if my contacts doesn't use same Ring standards/same SIP provider here?
