Of course, you need fink's python.  Doesn't fink take care of that,
using build requirements?  I think it should.

It does, but fink is stuck at version 1.6.0 and I'm doing the build-from-source routine separately.

Anyway, I installed Python 2.2.1 from Fink and still no joy... same error, and what's more there's still no libpython to be found. I'm stumped, but I suppose as long as the executables work, everything's OK in general... :(
