By way of reference, this is exactly how Notion talks to Studio One.
While it isn't flawless, it is an excellent way to work.  I haven't
looked at the Notion midi output but I suspect it includes a lot of 
CC info, which leads to its own problems when you synchonize, but 
most of them are not too hard to work around.  

Of course PreSonus now owns both of these products so co-ordination
is a lot easier than with a generic DAW.  If this were to be a
thing for LP, then I suspect that there would also need to be an
effort to select a suitable DAW to work with, which may be problematic.
